The annual SPTC Memorial Day Picnic and...
The S.P.T.C. Swim School
Summer - 2013
A Special Note: All Instructional Swim classes will again be offered as 1-week sessions. Our primary hope with this format is that it will provide more flexibility for SPTC members attempting to schedule other activities such as summer school, camps, and vacations.
Lessons Notes:
- All lessons will begin on Monday, June 10th.
- Pre-registration,especially for the Beginner Class, is appreciated; this allows us to adequately gauge instructional needs.
Email registration is preferred (grey3@q.com). - Please read class descriptions for lesson content, outcomes and the “target” group for each class.
- Swimmers are continually assessed and will be moved to the next swimming level as their skills improve; it is not unusual to have this happen in mid-session.
- Swimming lessons will again be open to Non-members of the SPTC during both July and August on a “space-available” basis. Please share this information with your friends, neighbors, and relatives who may be interested in these lessons.
Swimmers: 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Monday - Thursday $45.00 per session
Target Group: This instructional group is designed especially for those swimmers currently on the swim team, those who might be “new” to the competitive swimming program or for those swimmers seeking advanced stroke instruction.
Class Objectives: The emphasis in this instructional group is learning and refining all four of the competitive strokes used in the competitive swimming program. Each week will feature stroke drills on Crawlstroke as well as instruction on Butterfly, Backstroke, and Breaststroke. Our goal is to make each participant functional on all four of the competititive strokes.
Intermediates: 10:45 - 11:30 a.m. Monday - Thursday $45.00 per session
Target Group: This class is intended for those swimmers who are self-sufficient in deep water, but require basic refinement in crawl stroke, backstroke and breaststroke. This is the progression class for those swimmers coming out of the Beginner class.
Class Objectives: Provide instruction on crawl stroke, refinement of breathing and coordination with arm stroke, as well as basic instruction in backstroke and breaststroke.
Beginners: 11:30 - 12:00 a.m. Monday - Thursday $45.00 per session
Target Group: This is our class designed for those children, 4-years of age and older, who have had either very limited or no formal swimming instruction. They really are "Beginners" in the learn-to-swim process. The teacher/student ratio is kept very small with this class with students being allowed to progress down the line of skill development as quickly as they can learn. Students are introduced to "deep water" just as soon as their skills allow a positive experience.
Class Objectives: The primary objective of this class is to make children functional and safe in deep-water. The basic armstroke and swimming skills are taught from the first session and children remain with this group until they are able to swim comfortably in deep water using a functional front crawlstroke and back float with kick. The progression-group for this class is the Intermediate Class.
PLEASE NOTE:
Because we feel that a low teacher-student ratio is especially important with this class, if class numbers and skill level warrant, this class may be split into a second group taking lessons from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. This "split" would be announced during the first class session. It is especially important for parents to pre-register their child for this particular class.

"END OF SUMMER" SWIMMING LESSONS
The competitive swimming season for the SPTC ends on July 25th with the annual Inter-Club Swimming Meet. The Swimming Instructional Program does continue, at that point, with weekly sessions up through the Labor Day Week. During this time frame, however, there is a time change for all classes.
Beginning Monday, July 29, these changes will be made:
•Swimmers 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. Monday - Thursday
•Intermediates 9:45 - 10:30 a.m. Monday - Thursday
•Beginners 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.** Monday - Thursday
(**If class numbers/skill level warrant, a second group will be created)
(a second group would swim from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.)
